MIDTOWN. This trendy and festive restaurant is just as the name implies. Set in an old 1940's beauty shop, the waitresses wear curlers and you can dine in refurbished hair-dryer chairs. But the kitchsy theme isn't what keeps the place packed out. The eclectic and international fare is interesting yet delicious and won't disappoint. From the clay pot Thai mussels to the apple-smoked Cuban style chicken, a meal here is an adventure every time. But all that is just to be expected from the mind behind it all, Karen Blockman Carrier, who created two of Memphis' other most popular restaurants, Automatic Slim's and Cielo.

MIDTOWN. Located near Overton Square, this mostly-French restaurant is reminiscent of a small country cafe in France. The kitchen staff demonstrates its inspiration and talent on a regular basis as special lobster dishes appear regularly on the menu as well as the occasional game dish. Dessert is another gustatory delight not to miss here. Featuring Grand Marnier crème brûlée, mascarpone cheesecake and a special cappuccino terrine layered with chocolate, espresso and caramel Bavarian with a cinnamon crème Anglaise. EAST MEMPHIS. Since 1922, Leonard's has been serving up its famous pork sandwiches, ribs and catfish. An à la carte menu and serve-yourself buffet are always available, but if you want catfish, plan ahead 'cause it's only served on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If your appetite is large, try the rib feast for two or the "all you can eat" specials ­ real bargains, both. Leonard's motto is "what real pit barbecue is all about." Reservations not accepted.
